The Democracy Commitment has partnered with our four-year public colleges and universities colleagues AASCU’s American Democracy Project to create a year-long Engage the Election 2016 initiative powered by icitizen, a leading civic engagement app. Together we launched this initiative on January 12, 2016 with a State of the Union event. This initiative will include a series of comprehensive nonpartisan activities through the inauguration of our next U.S. president.

The Engage the Election 2016 Initiative includes a series of webinars focused on various aspects of political engagement. We have also co-hosted with NASPA a political engagement pre-conference institute at our 2016 Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Meeting. The initiative will also include a series of presidential debate watches in the fall with live tweet-ups. Finally, we’ll create, collect and share a variety of resources designed to help our campuses and students navigate the ever-growing amount of information, tools, and opportunities out there focused on advancing nonpartisan student political engagement.

Webinars

In order to offer a robust and comprehensive engage the election program, ADP/TDC presents a series of political engagement-focused webinars to keep campuses engaged throughout the year. Topics include: voter registration best practices, voting rights, research on youth electoral engagement, informed voting, creating a campus culture for political engagement, and political engagement beyond elections.  This webinar series is open to faculty, staff, and students on our participating campuses as well as to the audiences of our partner organizations. Webinars are  recorded and archived for those who are unable to participate in the live events.
