Initiatives and Projects

Initiatives and Projects

TDC Members have exclusive opportunities to participate in national initiatives creating an interconnected web of students, campuses, and communities committed to democracy.  To this end, TDC presents a series of Special Initiatives designed to promote national projects that will allow students to become deeply involved in substantive citizenship issues.

This effort, a blend of national and campus-centered activities, entails a series of initiatives and projects that are supported by groups of campuses and national partners creating materials and ideas for community colleges to use in promoting civic learning and democracy engagement among campuses.  Each initiative deals with critical national dialogues and issues such as political engagement, inequality, deliberative democracy, community conversations, civic agency, and civic curriculum development.

Current Initiatives and Projects

ADP & TDC Joint Initiatives

TDC welcomes all member institutions to participate in joint initiatives with the American Democracy Project (ADP).  ADP is a multi-campus initiative focused on public colleges and universities’ role in preparing the next generation of informed, engaged citizens for our democracy.  TDC is modeled after ADP whose goal is to produce graduates who are committed to being knowledgeable, involved citizens in their communities.

Civic Learning and Engagement

TDC leads several programs designed to create more informed, engaged, and socially responsible citizenry among our community colleges. Through initiatives, projects, publications, and collaborations, TDC builds national awareness of the importance of civic learning and civic responsibility that is essential for life, work, and democracy.

Democratic Learning and Engagement

America was founded on democracy and the democratic values of meaningful participation, personal initiative, and equality and justice for all. Democratic learning infuses the educational process with these fundamental values of our society creating brave spaces in classrooms, campuses, and communities. TDC democratic learning and engagement programs and initiatives engage students in shared decision-making and in taking responsibility for their education, campuses, and communities.
