Our Programs

Created and Designed for Community Colleges
TDC Members have exclusive opportunities to participate in national initiatives creating an interconnected web of students, campuses, and communities committed to democracy. To this end, TDC presents a series of Special Initiatives designed to promote national projects that will allow students to become deeply involved in substantive citizenship issues. This effort, a blend of national and campus-centered activities, entails a series of initiatives and projects that are supported by groups of campuses and national partners creating materials and ideas for community colleges to use in promoting civic learning and democracy engagement among campuses. Each initiative deals with critical national dialogues and issues such as political engagement, inequality, deliberative democracy, community conversations, civic agency, and civic curriculum development.

TDC’s Action Civic programs advance the idea that a student-centered, project-based approach to civic education which develops skills, knowledge, and dispositions necessary for our 21st century democratic practice is vital to the future of our democracy.

TDC’s civic and democratic learning programs assist in the development of the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make a difference.

TDC’s civic and community engagement programs were created to advance our commitment to inspire community colleges students to make a difference in the civic life of our communities.

TDC’s political and democratic engagement programs are designed to advance democracy through political institutions, organizations and activities.

In collaboration with the Center for the Study of Community Colleges, member institutions will administer a survey to assess community college students’ civic agency, behavior, and knowledge after at least one year of attendance at a TDC member institution. Results can guide institutional civic efforts.
