“Bridging Cultures to Form a Nation”

Lone Star College Kingwood and Tarrant County College Southeast invite presentations for their conference Bridging Cultures to Form a Nation, to be held November 8-9 2013 on the campus of Lone Star College Kingwood. The mission of the two day conference is to examine the skills students should possess to increase their understanding of other cultures and ability to work with people of different cultures.  In addition we will answer the question, “What are the signature pedagogies and practices that encourage Cultural Awareness?” We invite proposals that address those themes in the curriculum of the traditional and on line learning environment.

THE CONFERENCE BRINGS TOGETHER STUDENTS, EDUCATORS, AND RESEARCHERS TO SEE HOW OTHERS ARE BUILDING CULTURAL AWARENESS AND TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THE RESOURCES FOR THEIR OWN COLLEGE CAMPUSES AND CLASSROOMS.

Proposals should be submitted to address the following topic:

Twenty first century colleges and universities have been called to play an important role in providing students with the skills necessary to participate in an increasingly diverse workplace and community. Now more than ever, students will need skills to work across political, social, cultural, and religious differences in order to be successful.  Community colleges are instrumental in filling that need. This conference brings together classroom, administrative, and student support professionals to share how they infuse questions of difference, community, and democratic thinking in their curriculum to facilitate common dialogue among those who are different. In your proposal, explain the various ways that institutions are responding to these challenges.

Please note that proposals may only be submitted under one category. All proposals must contain an abstract of 150 words or less and must be received by October 17, 2013.

$25.00 Conference registration fee will be waived for presenters. Submission of a proposal does not guarantee acceptance.
