The Democracy Commitment Student Club at Delta College hosted a “We’ve All Got Issues” campaign in March to raise awareness about the political process on the lives of young adults. Throughout the course of the four-day campaign, students were invited to “vote” on the issue(s) they would like to see their state legislators make a priority. Issues of interest to young adults, including gay rights, marijuana, right-to work, etc., were represented, each with their own ballot box.

At the conclusion of the campaign, the ballots were tallied, with the results shared with area lawmakers during a trip to Lansing. A group of Delta students spent a day in the state capital, meeting with four lawmakers and conversing about the issues identified by the students.

“I think it’s really important for college students to get involved in issues we are passionate about – we are the future,” said Kelly Murphy, vice president of the club. “(As a club) we wanted to express to everybody the importance of becoming involved politically and civically.”
