Federal Judge Walter Rice helped the faculty, staff and students of Sinclair Community College, Dayton, OH celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17th, 2013.
Organized by members of the political science department the annual event brings focus on various aspects of the US Constitution. Judge Rice shared his observations on the delicate balance between individual rights and the powers of a national government. Members of the Young Libertarians Club shared copies of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. More than 100 students attended the event.
Past Constitution Day events have included panel discussions and debates focusing on historic and present issues impacted directly or indirectly by the Constitution. Student clubs and fa
culty from Political Science, History and Communication collaborate to plan and implement the event each year.
This event is working well but are we missing other opportunities, anniversaries or occasions to celebrate our democracy? What else can we do?
