Campusphere: Lone Star College-Kingwood Hosts Deliberative Dialogue Moderator and Deputy Voter Registrar Trainings
Provided by Lone Star College – Kingwood
On March 18th, Alberto Olivas from Maricopa Community College in Arizona, was invited to host a Deliberative Dialogue Moderator Training. The event was very successful. They discussed the topic of “Shaping Our Futures: How Should Higher Education Help Us Create the Society We Want?” There were about 50 people in attendance which spurred more conversation and made the event lively! We now have them doing Deliberative Dialogues in class and as part of our research.
On March 19th, we invited the Harris County Tax Assessor’s Office to come and do a Deputy Voter Registrar training here at Lone Star College-Kingwood. We had about 20 people in attendance including several students and local community members. The students are now getting prepared to host voter registration drives here on campus and some are teaming up with community members to host some voter registration drives within the community. Their drive is very encouraging to our work as we move forward to aid in the accomplishment of the “2-3-4 Goal.”
